Contrary to popular belief, not all plastics can be recycled in Singapore. Type 6 plastic, for example, can't be recycled! The triangle symbol embossed on plastic products often misleads people to think that all plastics are recyclable. The truth is, plastics are categorized into seven different numbers or plastic types, based on their properties.
This is how you can identify your plastics:

Type #6 PS (Polystyrene) is an example of plastic that cannot be recycled in Singapore. These are usually lightweight plastics commonly used for food packaging, disposable containers and styrofoam products. Recycling of Type 6 plastics is not widely available worldwide and recycling plants in Singapore do not accept them. Due to its material composition, it is also not worth the cost of sending them to recycling plants overseas.
Instead of throwing away your type #6 plastic, upcycle them into beautiful Shrinky Dink Keychains!
What you'll need:
1. Type #6 Plastic
2. Scissors
3. Permanent markers
4. Toaster or oven
5. A pair of mittens or a piece of cloth
6. Key rings
Here are the steps:
1. Cut up a piece of type #6 plastic to your desired shape and size.

3. Get creative! Decorate your keychain using permanent markers.
