SGEFF is back for the third year running and it will be held from 1st - 4th November at the ArtScience Museum

1. The first and only eco-themed film festival in Singapore Film festivals are increasingly popular in Singapore - they serve as an excellent platform for filmmakers to showcase their production and for cinephiles to catch a wide variety of films which aren’t usually screened in local cinemas.

It is also a great opportunity for people to promote a social cause and SGEFF is one of such examples! The eco-themed festival is the first of its kind in Singapore and it has hosted various film screenings, discussion and workshops - for all things green and sustainable related.

In addition to its usual programmes, the organizers are also attempting to break a Singapore record this year! Together with the help of other green partners - namely the Fashion Pulpit and Agy: The Textile Artist, the team has been working hard to weave Singapore’s largest knotted artwork made up of upcycled T-shirt yarns!

2. Catch a world premiere Fancy being one of the first in the world catch a world premiere? Zero Waste SG - a film by students at the WA (Western Australian) Screen Academy, will be screened for the first time on Day 2 of the festival! The short film follows the journey of William Pacquiao, who travels to Singapore to seek out the Zero Waste movement, meeting inspiring characters and stories along the way.

The organizing team has also worked tirelessly to curate a range of films based on the three themes this year. Audiences can expect multiple short film premieres and even an Asian premiere of The Gateway Bug - a documentary about how changing daily eating habits can feed humanity in an uncertain age.

3. Meet international film-makers Audiences can also get to meet international filmmakers at SGEFF 2018. Some of these distinguished guests include Ryan Killackey, who’s the director, cinematographer, writer of the award-winning documentary Yasuni Man. The producers of The Gateway Bug will also be flying in from Melbourne for the event. Local filmmakers Wally Tham and Low Ser En will also be present to share their inspiration behind their films.

5. It is run entirely by volunteers The coolest part about the whole festival? It is run entirely by volunteers (and discounted contractors), coming from all walks of life, who are concerned and passionate about the environmental issues we currently face!

Some of them were even audiences themselves, from the previous editions. While others have been returning to organize this annual event.
